About the Author

Liza M Roux was born in Pretoria, South Africa. 

She grew up with a passion for nature and the outdoors and a dream to live and work in the African Bushveld. 

She studied in Eco-Tourism Management at the Tshwane University of Technology.

After the completion of her diploma she worked as an  Environmental Educator at WESSA for 3 years.

She worked at a Country Guest House in Hoedspruit where she got married in 2012. She and her husband managed a Game Ranch and lodge in the Free State for 5 years.

In 2017 their daughter was born. 

In 2018 her family moved to rural Mozambique where her husband is currently managing a cattle ranch in the Govuro district of northern Inhambane. 

She has since authored three best-selling children’s books which are available in Afrikaans and English:

Liza started blogging in 2014 as a way to count her blessings and the blog has become a celebration of the things she is passionate about, nature, travel, food, the outdoor-lifestyle, likeminded people and miscellaneous lifestyle topics.

One of her personal highlights on this blog are the stories on the raising of Crocuta a Spotted Hyena pup that they had the privilege to raise. You can read the series here, Crocuta

    May I ask what camera you typically use? The photos are fantastic! If you’re not already doing so, I recommend you create a profile on NG “your pic” – you get nice feedback and it’s a lovely photo community.

  4. Nice to see this blog! Homesteading is something we are also passionate about. We are a family of 6 living in northern Mozambique on a one hectare sustainable farm. We haven’t documented our journey like you have……but it has been epic and a great learning experience!

      1. Nampula Province…..Rapale District. Remote enough. :)…..about 45 minutes from Nampula city center. However, we are “in the bush” and living off grid.

  5. Ek het jou post oor die Langenhoven Mark (Boeremark) op die volgende Facebook-groep gedeel. Ek hoop meer mense sal gehoor gee aan jou versoek om minder plastiek te gebruik. Net more gaan ek vir my ‘n gevlegde mandjie by die vroutjie op die Boeremark koop.

  8. Hi Liza! Dit was so lekker om van jou blogposts te lees! Ons was al baie daar deur jul distrik. Ons het 13 jaar terug vir ‘n paar jaar in Luabo op die noordoewer van die Zambesi gewoon. Gunsteling oornag plek… M’pingwe lodge… Terug Kaap toe … Nog hele paar plekke. En nou woon ons weer in Mosambiek! Ons het woon nouwel in Matola. Maar die hunkering na platteland en ongerep sal altyd daar wees. As jul ooit hier moet deur, kom kuier! Hoe oud is jou dogter? Ons tuisskool ons 4 kinders. Oudste is 10.
    Dit was so lekker om vroeër die jaar vir hulle deur Mosambiek te vat op pad Lichinga toe.. maar o mens, die paaie tussen Inhassoro en Caia is die ergste ooit!
