About me

My name is Liza M Roux

Since I can remember, I have wanted to live away from the city and somewhere surrounded with nature. I am currently living my dream in the countryside of Southern Africa,  in the Govuro district of Mozambique. I am married and live with my husband, our daughter and an arrangement of pets. Read the articles specifically relating to our lives in Mozambique here>>Mozambique

How did I get here. After school I studied Eco-Tourism management at the Tshwane University of Technology. After finishing my diploma I worked as an Environmental educator at WESSA for 3 years. I did front-of-house for a year at a Country Guest House in Hoedspruit and acted as lodge manager at Game Ranch in the Free State for 5 years. In the year 2017 my daughter was born and I took some time off to be with her, doing only admin work on the side. In 2018 our family moved to Mozambique when an opportunity came along.

I have authored to children’s storybooks since moving to Mozambique.

I started blogging in 2014 as a way to count my blessings and share a life that so many city dwellers wish for. A life away from the rat-race, with time for sunsets and time to stop and smell the proverbial roses. The Start

My all-time top posts are the series I wrote on the raising of Crocuta a Spotted Hyena pup that we had the privilege to raise. You can read the series here Crocuta

Every so often I interview someone living in the Countryside of Southern Africa. I love bringing you people stories, people are what ultimately makes me tick. Country People

Another frequent feature is my Trailcam posts. I hide a motion-triggered camera on the farm and show what I find on Tuesdays. Trailcamming

I also like writing about environmentally sustainable life in Afrikaans. You can find the posts here. Volhoubare Leefstyl

If I get the chance to travel and visit the city I bring you stories of restaurants, places, events and loads of coffee. Coffee makes the world go round. Read my travel stories here. Travel

  1. What a gorgeous and generous blog! I love the pictures, the words and the thoughts! It’s magic!
May I ask what camera you typically use? The photos are fantastic! If you’re not already doing so, I recommend you create a profile on NG “your pic” – you get nice feedback and it’s a lovely photo community.
Great work! Looking forward to more of it! 🙂

  2. Nice to see this blog! Homesteading is something we are also passionate about. We are a family of 6 living in northern Mozambique on a one hectare sustainable farm. We haven’t documented our journey like you have……but it has been epic and a great learning experience!

      1. Nampula Province…..Rapale District. Remote enough. :)…..about 45 minutes from Nampula city center. However, we are “in the bush” and living off grid.

  3. Ek het jou post oor die Langenhoven Mark (Boeremark) op die volgende Facebook-groep gedeel. Ek hoop meer mense sal gehoor gee aan jou versoek om minder plastiek te gebruik. Net more gaan ek vir my ‘n gevlegde mandjie by die vroutjie op die Boeremark koop.
